I also think it is good to include all the core and most recognizable planets. Also, Empire at War, and Rebellion ("Supremecy" in Europe) have good choices for which ones ususally get selected when you can't have them all.
I think people will understand if the placement or canon is not 100% accurate... or if they don't and we want to accommodate them, of course that's fine too. But I'm sure this particular catagory is mostly the domain of Stilgar.

I read the post from the other forum about your question. I think there may have been a misunderstanding. Planets are different than sectors. When you say you are making a mod with over 150 "planets", you actually mean "sectors". A "sector" is that same as a "solar system" - each different place we fly to when we go through a jump gate. What I read was that having multiple planets in a sector doen't slow down the game, but that many additional sectors absolutely
would
slow down the game.

In fact, what the guy said is that performance is depending on what the game has to handle with. So what we need to consider is the number of scripts and what do they do, and how many elements (such as shipyard, automatic merchandising ships etc) the game must simulate.
So sectors and planets does not directly impact on game performances.
In the mean time if we look at others mods, or even vanilla, we see that 80 sectors is a commonly used number, I think I've seen much more for others mods but I not sure. So if we have a look at this map :

(which is from KOTOR era), we can easily have many sectors with 2, or even 4 planets. It depends on the importance of each sectors. So with around 80-100 sectors we can easily include a important part of the galaxy.
But I think we need to work in a few steps
- 1 : saying which are the important planets that we can not miss
- 2 : others importants planets
---- Make a point and counts how many ----
- 3 : searching for some interesant planets to add
--- Making the galaxy in the mod ---
Then we will have remaining planets to add for further versions of the mod. That will give us time to test if additionnal planets/sectors will make the mod being slow or not.

Attention, because SW maps is a non sense. That's not realistic, look at the map I sent you it's one of the best and it's updated with the new officials contents.
The other problem of Rebellion is that it is using sectors as if they were around a sun/star however in "reality" these planets have their own suns. When you read some wikia you discover that the number of planets is really high and that the planets we have heard about, we heard about because they were important. That means two planets close in the map may be "using" two different stars.

Yes, I understand.
I was not suggesting those other lists as a list to conform to... rather I said it was a list we could pick and choose individual planets from, if we wanted to use ones we liked and remember from past beloved games.
As stated, the only ones I think should definitely be added to your list were from the first important group I included... as for the rest, I really am not too invested and am fine with whatever anyone else would like.

I don't know if it is an oversight, or if there is a reason for not including them, but I'm pretty sure most people would think they are very important planets to include. I'm only thinking of their popularity, importance, and public insistance for their inclusion. I can imagine some reasons to not include them; practicality or they don't resemble their placement on the "real" map, or other reasons. But again, I don't think many people would care for those reasons
above
the negative of not having included planets like Kashyyyk, Geonosis, Mon Calamari, etc. I personally really don't care much, but am only thinking about what I'm pretty sure people would want, and that is a big factor, since the mod is not only being made for you and me...

I'm proceeding sectors by sectors (it's really loong), that's why some planets are not in the list. The 65/70% say that I've made searchs for 65/70% map and that 30 is still waiting. However the first post is not updated with my work of last night. I'll do that later
