Database of SW 3D models ships

Here is a topic to list all the SW ships already done by other modders that we could use for the mod.

SW Universe background - List of available ships 0.5ABY

This topic is for search purposes. For the mod we need to know what ships was available at that time. So if you can help with names, pictures and informations about the ships (where was it available in space, what kind of ships it was etc) that would help us A LOT !

That looks like a great resource!

As far as your private message about the "Complete List of .xsp Ships"... Yes, I have seen that one, as it is the most common and reliable source for .xsp ships. Very nice. Just download the .xsp, press the button, and the ship is in your game. Makes things very convenient.

Not to be arrogant, but I have seen pretty much all the sources out there for custom X3 ships. There is that source, a Russian source -Jorkin shipyard, Arachnos ships, MM's ships, Cycrow's ships... I can say that the current SW mod from Arachno that we are starting from has pretty much all of the SW ships that are currently available for X3. The list is so complete in his version, that I would actually prefer to delete many of them, because I don't think they are as desirable as the ones we all know and love. But he has also altered many ships that we do know and love to look much better than the source ship he used from a different ship maker, which is why I am so persistant about learning the secret to extracting the individual ships from the mod. That way, we can delete ships we don't want to include, and include his improved ships, instead of using the old versions from sources like the "Complete List of .xsp ships".

There are many MUST HAVE Star Wars ships that no one has ever made for X3. These are:

The Carrack Light Cruiser
The Tartan Cruiser
The Neutron Star-class Bulk Cruiser
The Invisible Hand
The DP-20 Frigate
The Alliance Assault Frigate MK II
The Acclamator Cruiser

All have been made for other mods for other games, but no one has made them for X3. Shame...

So… before I get to work on processing all the available ships for the mod, I thought now might be the best time to consider which ships we actually want in the mod. Also, we might consider which ships should serve which purpose, which particular Star Wars ships should replace which particular vanilla ships, what each specific load out should be for each ship, etc.

Since Stilgar has so wonderfully solved the one puzzle that was preventing this, we now have total control over all of these questions. This is not something that is being requested as if it is a necessity… if no one has any particular preferences or opinions and would like to focus on other areas of the mod, I would be happy to do all the work and decisions in the ship category. I am just giving the opportunity in case anyone else has strong opinions and desires regarding ships in the mod. I have my own ideas and preferences concerning ships for the mod, but almost zero of them are very strong, and I am very happy to work toward others opinions. But I think these things would be easiest to consider before all the work is done to convert and alter them, without having to change them up too much again when all the work is finished.

With a very few exceptions, the ships already contained in the current “Chronicles” mod are almost all possible Star Wars ships that anyone has made for X3. As for me personally, my opinion is that there are some in that list that I think are not very familiar, have a silly style, or are just not very good, and I would prefer they not be included.

For a complete list of revelant ships to the era we choose, check posts *9 and *10 of this topic. The list is almost complete and is, I think, the best base to work on for us.

For vanilla ships, I think the best solution is to replace all of them. And to create a totally new system for us. Using vanilla ships items would be too long and a brainstorming, however deleting and adding ships is much more easier.

Then, with the list we have we will have to decide indeed which ship is used for what (war, trade etc). This can be done "easily" with all the encyclopedia with have but it will takes time for sure.

I'll have a look at the ships you listed here.

For vanilla ships you want to keep, we can keep some, but that would be an attempt to the SW universe. The thing we can do is to let some of them in some far away pirates sectors as abandonned ships.

Ok... I see it would be preferred to replace all vanilla ships and that's fine with me. I didn't realize that #9 and 10 was a list that was specific to the ships that are desired as choices for this particular mod. The only problems I see is that:

1) many of the desired ships mentioned in the list do not exist for X3, and unless we have someone who is a 3D modeler, it looks like we are stuck with choosing from the list of available ships. If we do have some way to make ships from existing meshes, then many exist from other mods, including Empire at War, Sins of a Solar Empire, etc. http://forums.sinsofasolarempire.com/417053

2) The issue I was mentioning about the balance of "good, neutral, and bad" factions. When I ask the question, I see the response links to the ship and faction list, but I don't know or understand if the "good/bad" point I was making is understood and agreed with, or if it is trying to be said that it will not be a problem, or that it is preferred to be unbalanced.

If more balance is desired, it could include "good" or neutral factions such as:

Anzatan Commonwealth
Aurodium Legion
Avance Coalition

I don't really know too much or am very invested in the non-movie elements of Star Wars (even though I love it so much), so I don't know if these are good options or not... but I do a google search for "Star Wars Factions" and see that there are many to choose from.

I think this video, with good publicy on the net will be a good way to "attrack" more people here, and hopefully some 3d modeler

. I can do the french part of that work, and maybe the german one. If you have some time to create topics explaining our project on the SW english internet it may help us. I can do that of course, but my english is not that good.

*2 : I think that neutral factions were buying ships due to commercial partnership. I mean, we can not do a global plan for so many different factions, each one was having its own history. The other problem is that I don't think that the galactic empire or the alliance were selling their military ships.
But the problem for us is not here. We already have a lot of work to do with a first list of

10 factions. Extra-factions could be ideas for more advanced versions of the mod, but I think we shouldn't see things too big for the first one.
